The Cyprus Green Party

The Cyprus Green Party was founded in 1996 and is based on the principles and philosophy of the World Ecological Movement. 

The Party's aim is to promote sustainable development and the protection of the environment, through actions and legal reforms, and information and sensitisation of the public. All processes are open to all members. Fields of activity: environmental administration of construction projects, combating pollution, saving energy, administration of water reserves, genetically modified organisms, bioethics and biotechnology, bioculture, electromagnetic fields and antenae, protection of fauna and flora and animal welfare, the right to access to information and full disclosure and transperency, combating  corruption etc. 

The Cyprus Green Party is represented in the House of Representatives by one MP and at local governance level by 5 municipal councillors.  

According to our Statutes the following targets are set:

1. The gathering of all Cypriots that realise the importance of maintaining and promoting a balanced ecosystem and the protection of the environment for the survival of every human society.

2. The sensitization of every Cypriot in the battle to maintain, restore and upgrading of the ecological conditions in our land, with the aim of formulating a unified and strong voice, for the dynamic demand of an ecologically balanced future for the Republic of Cyprus and it’s citizens.

3. The substantive, multidimensional and multi level dynamic intervention in the fermentations for the modulation of the future of the Republic of Cyprus, founded on the correct perception concerning the maintenance, the protection and the indivisibility of its ecological system, which includes the respect of human dignity and the rights and freedoms of the individual.

4. The fashioning among the members and friends of the Ecologist’s-Environmentalist’s Movement of a spirit of understanding, tolerance, friendship, altruism and love, both among themselves as well as in their relations and contacts with third parties, bearing in mind the attainment through democratic means of the common target. The exclusion of any actions aiming at self-promotion or the domination of one over the others through deceit, non-transparency and the warping of reality.

5. The aim, through every legal and democratic medium, of the expansion of the political influence of the Ecologist’s-Environmentalist’s Movement and the political intervention of the Movement in every political, ecological, environmental, social or economic issue that deals with, directly or indirectly, with its targets and philosophy.
 
6. The continuous, consistent, responsible and dynamic effort to achieve and retain a continuous, viable and functional peace, through a healthy and steady ecosystem, for the future generations of Cypriots.

7. The perpetual, dynamic and consistent battle for the liberation of Cyprus and its people from any condition that influences negatively the maintenance of the ecosystem of our country.
